The "Crusade Against Communism" medal was established by the Kingdom of Romania during World War II and served to honor soldiers and auxiliary personnel who had participated in the campaign against the Soviet Union. After Romania entered the war on the German side in 1941, the country joined the attack on the USSR. The campaign was propagandistically termed the "Crusade Against Communism," and the medal of the same name was created in this context.
